Cape Consultant believes that you should enjoy using your computer...And that such use should certainly cause you no harm! So, I address the, for some reason, hardly ever talked about issue of ergonomics. Maybe because it is a complex issue that is overshadowed by the "it's too expensive" mentality. The truth is, most computers and computers stands, tables, desks, and chairs are dangerously and frighteningly UN ergonomic. Cape Consultant does not pretend to be a true expert in this area. More likely the trial by fire type of expert. I spend more time at the computer than most. I spend more time at OTHER computers than most. And when I visit the Chiropractor or the masseuse, it becomes PAINFULLY clear to me that my lack of computer ERGONOMICS are doing me harm. However, please do not worry about me as action has been taken :) I purchased from here Ergo in Demand a proper keyboard tray. And soon my keyboard will be at the correct angle of about NEGATIVE 15 degrees. Yes, contrary to previous "thinking", in order to allow your wrists to be straight rather than unnecessarily and unhealthily flexed, the keyboard needs to be tilted AWAY from you, rather than towards you. Give it a try and see if you do not notice an IMMEDIATE relief from wrist strain. Of course, in order to do this you may need to purchase a similar item as me. Why? Because as I mentioned above, out of the box keyboards, laptops, desktops, chairs, desks and stands, MOST are WOEFULLY UN ergonomic. Cape Consultant STRONGLY recommends that anyone who uses a laptop computer (and they are so very popular) should immediately go out and buy two things,. A laptop STAND and a full sized keyboard, PREFERABLY one of the more "natural" keyboards. Staples is your friend. this will put the laptop at the proper HEIGHT and ANGLE for your viewing pleasure and allow you to use a much more wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, neck and back friendly keyboard. Ergo in Demand I have put a link to a really great PDF file here that will solidify the basics of ergonomics very well. Please download and print this file. The pain you save may be your own. Ergo in Demand I have no affiliation with Ergo in Demand. I just found them on Google and they had what I wanted. May we all be pain free computer users in 2008! |
